“Beijing cars” are “driving” to more and more cities around the world. On November 27, Beijing time, the Beiqi Foton Thailand factory was completed in Bangkok, and the 1 millionth car exported overseas by the company was also delivered on site.
Beiqi Foton Thailand Factory is located in Bangkok, covering an area of about 37,000 square meters, focusing on the development of heavy trucks, medium trucks, light trucks, buses, especially new energy series commercial vehicle products. The factory is equipped with complete production facilities such as assembly workshops, testing and debugging, quality inspection, logistics warehousing, etc., and has realized KD (knockdown assembly) localized operation, with an annual standard production capacity of 3,000 units.
In 2019, under the background of jointly building the “Belt and Road Initiative”, BAIC Foton and Thailand’s CP Group officially joined hands to cooperate. “With the completion and operation of the Thai factory, BAIC Foton CP Manufacturing Company is gradually building Thailand into BAIC Foton’s overseas truck manufacturing base, committed to becoming the top three commercial vehicle brands in the Thai market, and radiating ASEAN and surrounding markets.” A relevant person in charge of BAIC Foton said.
“We have established an industrial cluster in Thailand, and the next step will be to further expand to markets such as Indonesia and Vietnam.” The relevant person in charge said that the company is steadily advancing the localization layout in the Americas, and the Brazilian local manufacturing project will start production in 2025. As of now, BAIC Foton has built 22 local KD factories around the world.
This is also a microcosm of China’s new energy vehicles accelerating their landing overseas with advanced technology. At present, Foton’s new energy products such as pure electric light trucks and buses have fully passed the WVTA EU whole vehicle type certification, and new energy commercial vehicles have also spread across Europe, Asia Pacific, South America and other markets. It is currently promoting the transformation of commercial vehicles to electrification, networking and intelligence.
